  1. "Curing" Gay People? There's an App for That.

There’s an app for "Curing" gay, lesbian, transgender people. (For gay people, launched an iPhone app) The Exodus app is intended to reach tech-savvy young adults, and deliver this dangerous message. But there is other worse that is Exodus app a 4+ rating on iTunes (app "non-offensive,"). People say to gay kids that their sexual orientation is "immoral," "satanic," and in need of a cure. They are some factors for that like the depression; anxiety, etc. started a petition on Change.org, asking Apple to remove Exodus' dangerous "ex-gay" app from iTunes now. Apple actually removed another app from iTunes that labeled same-sex couples "immoral sexual partnerships." Exodus International’s "ex-gay" app deserves to be pulled from iTunes as well. The American Psychological Association and . . . . Have all rejected "ex-gay" therapy, saying that it results in catastrophic damage to the mental health of its victims. If you haven't yet signed Truth Wins Out's petition asking Apple to remove this app.

Classes’ size in Detroit public school could be raised to 62 students a class. A member of the Detroit government makes a proposal to close half the city’s schools. Buy if this drastic decision is accepted then many teachers would lose their jobs.

By this decision token by the district the district could earn a lot of money but the district could get in trouble with the Detroit public schools teachers because of violating their union contracts.

Last year, the Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking Deterrence and Victims Support Act of 2011 -- which would help alleviate the shelter crisis for sex trafficked kids in the U.S. -- was days away from becoming law. Unfortunately, the legislation was blocked at the last minute by Alabama Senator Jeffrey Sessions, after Concerned Women for America wrote a letter to Congress saying kids who have been raped and forced into prostitution should be arrested. Now, the Victims Support Act and the thousands of children it will help have another chance ... until March 30.The Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking Deterrence and Victims Support Act would provide critical resources for the over 100,000 children sex trafficked in the U.S. every year. Child sex trafficking victims experience violent trauma, manipulation, and are often arrested and detained in juvenile detention. They need safe places like shelters to recover from that abuse. But there are only a handful of shelter beds in the whole country for child sex trafficking victims. Right now, there aren't enough aftercare facilities to serve even 1% of the estimated victims of child sex trafficking in the U.S. The lack of shelter for child trafficking victims is truly a national crisis.Fortunately, it has been, and now is being presented to Congress again. This time, anti-trafficking organization Polaris Project and thousands of other activists are refusing to let the Victims Support Act die for good. They're organizing grassroots supporters to get in touch with key members of Congress and advocate for the Victims Support Act to become law.

Midwifery is not a crime it should be legal. Last month a woman called Amy Medwin was arrested for practicing midwifery without license. it seems north Carolina do not wants women having home births. But it is not the only state feeling that way. Statistics can establish how safe this homebirths can be but law makers and doctors think the opposite and do not think home births are right choices. Time has come to tell North Carolina that midwives are not criminals they are health care professionals.

Library Shuts Down Reading to Dogs Program Over Pit Bull Prejudice
After being rescued from Michael Vick, Jonny Justice was not only rehabilitated, but he went on to help others — becoming a certified therapy dog and teaching the world about second chances with appearances on national TV and in magazines. Jonny and his human partner, Cris Cohen, had been slated to participate in a kids' read-a-thon at the public library in Burlingame, California. But the Burlingame librarian, Patricia Harding, decided to ban pit bulls from the program. Reading aloud to dogs has been shown to improve children's reading skills by 12 percent.
Last year, the Burlingame Patch reported that the Paws for Tales program were a big hit and it like to a lot of people.

School inspectors have decided that a child care facility in Moorestown, NJ is just too dangerous to let well enough alone. The danger is not in water quality or lax staff background checks. The threat can be found in the playground. Specifically, they've ordered any tree with branches below 7.5 feet from the ground to be removed. The inspectors have decided that these branches are a danger to children who might run into or trip over them. Childhood and tree-play has gone together since time immemorial. We have nursery rhymes that place babies in treetops. This order is another in a long line of parental friendly-fire decisions that would damage a natural resource for the sake of perceived caution.

  10. Facebook. Is it a website millions of people use every day, the inspiration for an Oscar-winning film, or a hub for the creation and distribution of child pornography? Child pornography and child sex trafficking don't just pop up occasionally on Facebook; criminals regularly use the site to systematically exploit children. But despite frequent user reports of child sexual abuse being facilitated through Facebook, the company has failed to create a strategy to address this growing crime. That's why Lepoutre and his colleagues are fighting back. They launched the Stop Child Porn on Facebook Campaign, which serves as a call to action to both Facebook and its users to make fighting child exploitation a priority. But so far, Facebook has yet to respond. According to “Tony,” one of the Netizens Watch members who patrols Facebook for these images and reports them to law enforcement. “In the last 4 months we have sent nearly 1,500 links containing child pornography on Facebook to the police all over the world, in Ireland, the U.S., Canada, Spain, Australia, Brazil and several other countries. We were responsible for 11 arrests in recent weeks and more arrests are coming due to our work. But, we can’t do this alone AND it shouldn’t be happening in the first place. We want to flood Facebook’s offices with Stop Child Porn on Facebook cards demanding action. This is an extraordinarily powerful tool that will motivate the company to invest the human and financial resources necessary to stop these crimes on their website. After all, WE are the citizens of Facebook and WE have a right to demand its safety and security.

  11. April 7 Lobby Day to STOP the War on Women
The anti-choice leadership of the U.S. House of Representative is waging a War on Women. According to Mother Jones, H.R.3, the extreme “Stupak on Steroids” bill, could "turn IRS agents into abortion cops." Since November, NARAL Pro-Choice America member-activists have sent 311,000 messages to Congress in opposition to the extreme anti-choice agenda. The pro-choice movement is united, and we’re taking our voices to Washington, D.C. On April 7, NARAL Pro-Choice America will be joined by Planned Parenthood and other pro-choice organizations for a pro-choice lobby day. You could meet face-to-face with your lawmaker and tell him or her to STOP the War on Women! It’s a great way to make a strong statement in support of women's freedom and privacy.

  12. If there were a Girl Scout badge for environmental bravery and dedication, 15-year-olds Madison Vorva and Rhiannon Tomtishen would be first in line to get them.
The pair of high schoolers have been garnering major press for their campaign to rid palm oil from Girl Scout cookies—the production of which, as we’ve written about before, destroys rainforests in Malaysia and Indonesia, and puts endangered orangutans at risk.
The girls began their crusade three years ago, while still in the fifth grade, after doing a research project on endangered orangutans in pursuit of the coveted Girl Scout Bronze Award. After learning that their beloved cookies played a role in makes the animals endangered, they launched a grassroots effort—complete with letter writing and presentations—to make Girl Scouts USA ditch dirty palm oil in favor of a more sustainable ingredient such as canola or sunflower oil.
Already, the girls have had some key successes. Earlier this month, Kellogg—one of the major producers of the cookies—announced it would start purchasing GreenPalm certificates to cover the entirety of its palm oil usage. And the U.K. version of Girl Scouts, Girl Guides, has made the move to eliminate palm oil from its products, and offered its support in making the same happen in the states.
Despite the fact that responsible bakeries across the country have successfully backed off from using the product. The organization’s listed commitments to address the issue are also vague at best, including missives to “use as little as possible” of the product and “continue to search for viable alternatives.”

  13. David Foster Wallace’s magnum opus “Infinite Jest” depicted an America so distracted and obsessed with entertainment that a mesmerizing movie becomes a potential terrorist weapon capable of making viewers die of pleasure. His posthumous unfinished novel, “The Pale King” which is set largely in an I.R.S. office in the Midwest depicts an America so plagued by tedium, monotony and meaningless bureaucratic rules and regulations that its citizens are in danger of dying of boredom. He writes, “dullness is associated with psychic pain because something that’s dull or opaque fails to provide enough stimulation to distract people from some other, deeper type of pain that is always there,” namely the existential knowledge “that we are tiny and at the mercy of large forces and that time is always passing and that every day we’ve lost one more day that will never come back.” Although “The Pale King” was pieced together by Wallace’s editor Michael Pietsch from pages and notes that the author left behind when he committed suicide in 2008, it feels less like an incomplete manuscript than a rough-edged digest of the themes, preoccupations and narrative techniques that have distinguished his work from the beginning. “The Pale King” is less inventive and exuberantly imagined than Wallace’s previous novels: no herds of feral hamsters roaming the land, no artificially created deserts in Ohio, no ad-bearing Statue of Liberty. But like “Infinite Jest” it depicts an America in thrall to myopic consumerism, and like his first novel, “The Broom of the System,” it grapples with corrugated questions of identity and the difficulties of communication. This narrator named David Wallace says he “dreamed of becoming an ‘artist,’ i.e., somebody whose adult job was original and creative instead of tedious and dronelike,” and at times this narrator feels like a might-have-been version of the real author had he not become a writer much the way that Harry Rabbit Angstrom feels like a might-have-been version of John Updike.

  14. Texas Senator Mario Gallegos of Houston has changed his mind about the proposed law to allow concealed weapons on the state's college campuses. He believes sin the right to carry and he also listens to colleges and schools. Gallegos and other two Texan senators delayed a vote on the measure from happening. But believe me that the war isn't over. Senator Jeff Wentworth is determined to find other supporters and bring the measure up for a vote again early next week.

After the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Masaya Uchino a student in San Francisco and his parents waited 12 hours to find out if the family and friends in Tokyo were alright. While waiting, he donated some money by texting the Red Cross with hopes that it would help the millions of other affected by the horrible tragedy .On Monday he found out that his donation wouldn’t actually reach Japan for 30 and 90 days. So he started a donation for Japan in the same way they did for Haiti so the money would get there straight away. As the petition climbed toward 50,000 signatures, California Senator wrote to the CEOs of the major mobile carriers echoing Masaya’s petition.
